3Football has a unique way of bringing people together often in non-conventional ways. In our multi-format ‘Footy Families’ series, we look at three very different football stories from around the AFLW community. ‘The Antonios’ showcases one of football’s ultimate power couples; Fremantle Dockers stars Kara Donnellan and Ebony Antonio. ‘Dad's Army’ profiles GWS Giants women’s coach Alan McConnell and the deep bond and respect that is forged between him and his charges. ‘Four-Leaf-household’ goes behind closed doors of a unique sharehouse featuring four Irish imports from three different teams. For AFLW fans, their footy family isn’t necessarily just the same people supporting their team but all the other fans that share in these other drivers and motivators.

4The Yoyaki Yarn is a weekly monologue which opens Yokayi Footy. It addresses the most pressing and important issue of the week. Sometimes, the content will be comedic, such as a look at the hilarious ways in which we’ve kept ourselves sane during lockdown. Other times, these pieces will be raw, intimate and heartfelt, like Bianca Hunt’s take on Captain Cook’s place in Australian history, or Tony Armstrong’s experiences of racial vilification in the context of the Black Lives Matter movement. Whatever the topic, the Yokayi Yarn is short and snappy, edgy, engaging, sharable, designed to make a statement and spark a great conversation – both on the show and in the living room.
